La leyenda de William Wallace, el personaje histórico que popularizó Mel Gibson a través de su oscarizada película Braveheart, tendrá su propia serie de televisión. Así lo ha anunciado STV Producciones, la productora que ha ideado el proyecto en asociación con Digital Rights Group y Nine/8 Entertainment.

“Esta fue una época turbulenta en la historia de Escocia. Una época en la que William Wallace tuvo un papel protagonista y fundamental”, ha explicado Alan Clements, uno de los productores de la serie, en unas declaraciones a The Hollywood Reporter.

“En el actual clima político, con todos los ojos puestos en Escocia, nos pareció un momento muy adecuado para contar esta historia con más profundidad”, concluye el creativo.
Mick Davis (The Eleventh Hour) escribirá el guión de la serie y participará en la producción del proyecto. El mismo escritor ha adelantado que la serie se centrará “en los años que Wallace pasó tratando de unificar Escocia, en sus amores y pérdidas”, así como en las batallas en las que luchó.
A través de un acuerdo con STV Producciones, la asociación Creative Scotland va a invertir en el proyecto a través de su Fondo de Desarrollo para la promoción de Escocia
